This updates firmware on the Hewlett-Packard CD-Writer Plus drive to revision 1.08 (The Philips drive). This is the CD-Writer drive, which is gray in color, has 'CD-Writer Plus' in the upper right-hand corner, and has small vent holes along the bottom of the unit. This firmware update resolves the problem where, during system recovery, if you format a large drive, the Philips CD-RW may spin down and cannot get restarted. After this update, you can now press Retry and continue. To install this update you must boot from a floppy disk created with the following steps. 1. Create a bootable floppy disk by double clicking on My Computer 2. Locate the 3 1/2 inch floppy drive 3. Using the "Right" mouse button, click once. 4. Select Format in the pull down list that appears from the previous step 5. Select the "Copy System Files Only" and Press Start Once the floppy is created do the following: 1. Go to the location on your hard drive where you downloaded the patch to 2. Double click the pcdrw108.exe file 3. The WinZip Self-Extractor dialog box appears and states "?You must extract these files to a BOOTABLE floppy diskette." Click on OK. 4. Put the Bootable floppy in the A: drive and click on Unzip. 5. This creates the installation disk for the Update. To install the update simply Shut Down and Restart your system with the floppy you just created in drive A:. The files will install automatically upon system start up. Please note any messages and follow all instructions on screen as the update continues.
