This software provides TWAIN drivers as an alternative to the h
photo and imaging software scanning software that comes with the h
scanjet 4500/5550 series of scanners
These TWAIN drivers are an efficient way to gain access to TWAI
functionality. Many document management systems do not require al
of the extended features included in the hp photo & imagin
software.
Without these alternative TWAIN drivers, the entire hp phot
& imaging software package must be installed in order to hav
access to a TWAIN driver. Moreover, alternative TWAIN drivers offe
users a streamlined workflow for heavy document management an
require less hard drive space for installation than hp photo an
imaging scanning software.
Before installing and using the alternative TWAIN drivers, user
should be aware that no user interface is supplied with the TWAI
drivers. In most cases the software used with these TWAIN driver
will control the scanning process and the results will b
completely satisfactory.
However, it should be noted that some applications, lik
ScanSoft's PaperPort, rely heavily on the host scanner's TWAIN use
interface to change settings such as resolution, color level an
page size. Because of the lack of a user interface with thes
alternative TWAIN drivers, and thus no opportunity (except in som
applications) to change the scan settings, this software will no
be ideal for all customers.
NOTE: this version of the file is the same as the previou
version (originally posted 4/7/04) except for the installer. Th
install did not load the digitally signed drivers correctly whic
caused a "Digital Signature not found" error. That problem has bee
fixed in this version.
