What is included in a Remote Firmware Updat
(RFU)?­

The HP LaserJet Printer Remote Firmware Update file availabl
from the hp web site contains firmware for the printer, embedde
JetDirect (if applicable), HP paper handling accessories used wit
the device in one convenient download file. When the Remot
Firmware Upgrade file is sent to the HP LaserJet Printer or MF
firmware for the engine and all connected accessories ar
upgraded.

Who needs this firmware?­

Similar to Hewlett Packard providing improved software for you
HP LaserJet Printer or MFP, Hewlett Packard provides firmwar
updates for your printer periodically through its supporte
lifecycle. A firmware update may be necessary if it is determine
that you may benefit from the resolution of any issue that i
documented below. These updates are available on the HP support we
site.

Determining the current version level of your firmware

To determine the current level of firmware installed o
the device :

Go to the printer's or MFP's control panel.

Press the "Administration" Icon on the touc
screen.

Select the "INFORMATION" selection on the touc
screen.

Select "CONFIGURATION/­STATUS PAGES".

Select "CONFIGURATION PAGE".

Select the "Print" button.

On the printed CONFIGURATION page look in th
section marked "Device Information" for th
firmware date code. The firmware date code will look something lik
this: 20040322 07.000.0

WARNING!!! When this update is performed,
manual power cycle will be required if updating from versio
20070614 48.031.7 or versions prior to this release. This mean
that someone must manually turn the power of the device "off" an
"on" using the power switch. No methods that are available t
remotely power cycle the device will work. Only turning the powe
switch "off" and back "on" will finish the update process.

It is important to note that the device will still receive faxe
and in most cases, a user will be able to send a fax, digital send
copy and print while in this state. The update process will not b
complete until the power switch has been turne
"off" and "on" and the mfp come
to a READY state. This means that certain issue
and behavior changes addressed by this update will not be availabl
until update is complete. HP highly recommends not leaving th
device in this state and power cycling to assure correct produc
behavior.

How do we know the device requires a powe
cycle?­

The users of the device are informed of the need to power cycl
by a message on the HP Easy Select Control panel which states tha
the Upgrade is complete and to turn the device "off" and then "on"
A "Hide" button will also be available on the screen which wil
allow a user to hide the screen to make a copy, perform a digita
send or send a fax but it will not finish the update until th
power cycle has been performed. It is important to realize tha
because the device has not completed its update there may be som
circumstances where not all features may work as expected.
